Ho:YAG crystal, also known as Holmium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet is a reliable material for direct Ho³⁺ excitation, operating in the 2.1 µm spectral range. It’s used in various applications, including atmospheric remote sensing and high harmonic generation. The low quantum defect of Ho:YAG, combined with the excellent thermo-mechanical properties of YAG, results in a small heat load and potential for scaling to high output power.
