IRD Ceramics recently completed installation and implementation of a state-of-the-art double-sided lapping and polishing system. This new process brings significant capability in sapphire plano optics with a diameter ≤ 100mm and 0.5-5 mm thickness (we have just delivered the first of an order for sapphire windows less than .2 mm thick). Flatness of ½-¼ wave is typical, with the potential to achieve 1/10 wave and <5 nm RMS in certain cases. This system is optimized for super-hard materials, but will also produce very flat, parallel, and smooth plano silicon and glass components. IRD is ITAR registered, and ISO 9001:2008 certified.
